The boys XC program concluded their pre district portion of their season this last Friday at THE Alief Classic. The weather was great, competition was stout, and the course was fast. The Longhorns took to the challenge and tied the line
For the Varsity Boys, they stepped up to the challenge and rang some bells! Running a team average of 17:04 with a 30 second 1-5 split, the Longhorns posted their best performance of the season. Placing 5th as a team in a very stacked and competitive, the Longhorns were led by Junior Daniel Hasouris who placed 15th with a personal best of 16:46 for 5 kilometers. Emilio Armijo (22), William Haldeman(26), Nathan Difalco(27) and Joshua Deleon (30) all ran personal best to keep a tight pack. Passing guys left and right, freshman Mathis Danican made his varsity debut and was the 6th man for the Horns, and Trenton Welch cracked the top 7 for the team this week with a stellar performance. The boys placed 9 runners under 18 minutes. The boys put on a pack running clinic to keep the point spread close and dominate the rest of the field.
On the JV squad, Hayes Rorie was the first longhorn to cross the line, with a career best time. Wyland Hofle ran a strong second leg for the Horns, finishing with a season best, and showing the sharp 2nd mile that is his secret weapon. Creighton Martin unleaded a ferocious kick to walk down a group of runners in front of him, while Travis Prater surged to the finish. Akshay Jha had the best race of the year as well, finishing strong to close out the scoring JV members.
The finally came in the freshman race. Over the two mile course, Elijah Lybarger picked up right where he left off. Like a shark in the ocean, he hunted down a pack of Klein cane runners, picking them off one by one. Elijah finished 2nd overall with a time of 11:25. Xavier Alvarez ran a great tactical race, weaving in and out of competitor and making a big move in the last 200 meters. And Mason Donaldson rounded out the freshman boys with a big improvement for the season.
The Boys will race in the District 20-6A championship on 10/7 in Fulshear Texas. They are ready to compete and fight for the win! Congratulations on all of your success Horns!
